THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS
When my sisters and their friends in Ireland suggested organising a 40ft container of goods for Bulgaria it seemed like a very good idea. They borrowed a warehouse from a friend for a month, put a notice in our parish newsletter and were soon inundated with clothes, toys, prams, cots and even a pallet of paint. All members of my very large family were roped in to help and they spent a month sorting and bagging all the items they received. My sister’s boss very kindly paid for the cost of shipping. On a typically wet Saturday in July the container was packed and set sail for Sofia via the docks in Varna.
Having done “their good deed” it was now down to me to sort things out this end. Albena and George from Tabitha Foundation were of tremendous help, Albena took care of all the paperwork requested by customs and George organised a warehouse in Sofia to store the goods. After many delays and several phone calls the container finally arrived in Sofia mid August.
As some of you know by now the volume of goods was overwhelming and we have spent many days sorting out the goods. I would like to thank all you ladies who have come along to the warehouse each time help was required.
It is an arduous task but very worthwhile. We always have good fun and it becomes less of a task and more like a social gathering with plenty of chat and laughter as we sort through the bags and organise goods for distribution. There is still plenty of work to be done so if you have free time please come along and join in. Members are notified by email as to when we plan a visit to the warehouse. We usually meet at the Onda Coffee Shop at Metro 1 Cash & Carry Tzarigradsko Chausse. Hope to see you there next time. |
